Join in the fourth annual public symposium, celebration and rendezvous of artists, scholars and youth celebrating natural world themes. This year’s theme, “Powers of Sun, Wind and Water” features new projects by visiting artists, the solar-electrified Weasel Bus, outdoor solar-powered video projections, DIY science lab, kinetic wind and solar installations, a kite extravaganza and gallery exhibition and evening celebrations on the rim of the gorge.

Visiting artists from New York State, Paul Vanouse and Joan Linder, will present their experimental new project, “People’s PCR”. Multiple installations slated for both day and night viewing will be installed at the Montoso Symposium site. The NeoKite Exhibition will be on view at Ocho in Questaion with a reception for the Youth Contributing Artists on Sept. 28, Friday evening, 5 – 8 pm. Short artist videos exploring “Powers of Sun, Wind and Water” will be projected with solar power on Thursday and Saturday evenings during the NeoRio Symposium. See schedule below for event details.

Collaboratively organized by LEAP (Land, Experience and Art of Place) and Wild Earth Studio and hosted by the BLM Taos Field Office, events take place at the Wild Rivers Recreation Area and at Ocho, a new arts space in Questa.

NeoRio 2012 is an ISEA2012 Machine Wilderness Taos area event.

9/27 Thursday – ISEA2012  Day – Come early! Stay Late!
12 noon – 4 pm NeoKite Exhibition – Ocho, #8 St. Hwy 38, Questa
2 – 5 pm – Informal Tour of “People’s PCR”, ISEA2012 and NeoRio Featured Artists, Paul Vanouse and Joan Linder, Wild Rivers Visitor Center6
6 pm NeoRio Prelude Party,Music by High Desert Acoustic Duo, Dutch Oven Enchiladas and artist videos projected with solar power harvested by the Weasel Bus.

9/28 Friday – Memorial Hike for Aron Rael and NeoKite Reception
All Day – Art Installations at Wild Rivers Recreation Area, (maps at Montoso Campground)
10 am – 2 pm Hike to Honor Aron Rael, Big Arsenic Springs, bring a sack lunch, water, good hiking shoes and weather appropriate clothing
5 – 8 pm Kite Exhibition Reception, Ocho, #8 St. Hwy 38, Questa
6:30 pm NeoKite Video premiere



9/29 Saturday – Featured Artists’ Talk and Evening Extravaganza
3:30 pm Artists Talk/Presentation of People’s PCR, Paul Vanouse and Joan Linder, Wild Rivers Visitor Center
4:30 pm Hands-on Tour of People’s PCR DIY Lab and Project Documentation
6 pm Powers of Sun, Wind and Water Celebration, Montoso Campground, Wild Rivers
Music by Michael Rael and Tim Long, Delicious Dinner, Reading by NeoRio Featured Writer, Kyce Bello
and Outdoor Video Screenings, projected with solar-power, harvested by the Wesel Bus
