“Pollinate: collaborate, create, celebrate” is this year’s theme for Questa’s third annual Event & Education Series.

Why?  Pollination happens every year, all around us, impacts many parts of our lives and yet remains a mystery to many of us. Pollination is a beautiful, complex, sexy and essential process for the survival of plants, animals and humans. It is inherently collaborative and creative. This is true, literally, for plants to reproduce (think food!) and for bees, butterflies and other pollinators to survive. It’s also true figuratively, as with the “cross-pollination” of ideas that prompt new thinking, understanding and innovation. The ¡Pollinate! theme is a call for putting our connections to work. It shines a spotlight on the global decline of pollinators and emphasizes local pollinators and the plants that help them thrive. Through art, science, ideas, stories and more, we are adding to our communities’ thoughts and gardens, and that is worth celebrating! We hope you can join us!

LEAP and its partners are calling on new, emerging, and established artists to pull out all stops in thinking about “Pollination” for its open-call, regional, summer art show at OCHO Art & Event Space in Questa.

To submit: Artists must be from northern New Mexico or southern Colorado. Art must be original and reflect the theme. All artwork must be framed/ready to display, and work should be under 200 square inches for wall-hanging pieces, or, in the case of 3-D works, should fit within a 1.5 foot cube. Possible mediums include painting, photography, stone, clay, glass, found object, jewelry, and more. Full submission information is available by downloading our application packet HERE.

The submission deadline is Monday, August 1. Artwork will be accepted between 2 and 6:00pm at OCHO Art & Event Space in Questa. Artwork pick-up is September 27th. An opening reception for artists and collectors will be held August 13, 5 – 8 pm, with refreshments and live music.
